8/2/04

We worked on a simple Excel automation per a request by Jim.  We pulled up a previous Word Automatin Class we had created about a year ago.  After a few modifications, we had a working open, change, and save automation from VB.NET.  After a few tries we realized we would have to force the garbage collector to collect instances of Excel for us by placing the line GC.Collect after we closed our Excel application and set it to nothing.

We found a site http://www.thefreecountry.com that had info on the Free Borland C#Builder.  We downloaded C#Builder, registered it after a small registration key issue, then ran it.

Borland C#Builder had a simple interface that reminded us of Visual Studio.NET C#, with a few lesser quality features.  Of course C#Builder is free for non-commercial applications. Anyway, after a few neat examples we moved on to conclude our meeting.
